Fall is here and so are new babies. -- Lorina

Moriah has come home for fall term at school.  Luli and Ipa have stayed at her home in Billings with Brent.  We miss them but Brent is happy to have them for company while Moriah is slaving away at nursing school.  Daytona has fit in so nicely and has completely and solidly bonded with Moriah.  She follows her everywhere.  She is on her lap right now and if Mo (that is what we call her) gets up to even go to the bathroom or kitchen, Daytona is right on her heels.

Reese has had her babies.  Navajo must have "connected" before we witnessed it because she gave birth about 5 days before we expected it.  Reese had been out at dad's ranch (she really loves it out there) and when I called her to go home I could not find her.  She had disappeared!  I had a feeling about what may have happened.  She went under a shed and had her babies.  I knew they would be fine because the weather had been beautiful and Reese is such an amazing mother.  We looked until we found where she was, or which shed she was under.  She would come out to eat but then disappear again.  Dad went under the shed several times trying to find her but she was dug in like a tick!  He finally located her general area and cut a hole in the floor to get them out!  She had two fat, sassy, healthy babies.  A boy and a girl.

We were very excited to see our first brindle, a brindle piebald little lady.  She has such beautiful markings.  She will be a striking dog.  And she had a nice chubby, shaded red boy.  His markings are quite defined.  Both babies are now at my home and are being held and loved by Landyn.  He is so happy to have babies to spoil again.  They are already chosen and named Max and Tillie.

Everyone else is doing great.  Mr. Weenie is spending some time everyday out at the ranch with dad and Jared.  They are doing some construction and fence building in anticipation of getting 2 calves next spring.  It is good for Weenie out there as he has lost some weight just with running all over the place.  Jared has taught him to jump up into his arms, it is so cute!

Tir is also spending time out at the ranch.  She has kind of bonded to dad and sleeps in his bed with him at night, spoiled girl!  Bru is in heat and being rested right now.  She will be paired with Navajo with her next cycle for red and brindle piebald pups.  She is an "8 month cycler" meaning rather than coming in heat every 6 months like most girl dogs, she is every 8 months.  The boys are out at the ranch being dachshunds, digging and running around.

Visit to the Vet -- Moriah

We have had a few visits lately. So in the past couple puppy check-ups for Luli we were concerned that she hadn't lost her baby canine teeth even though her adult ones were coming in. So we waited to see if they would loosen and come out on their own, but no such luck. So Luli had to go under anesthesia to get them pulled last week, she did very well and is back to chewing up all her favorite toys!

Last Thursday I (Moriah) brought Ipa and Daytona into the vet for some check ups. The girls did well with the people, but weren't too crazy about the other dogs haha. But that's not the main point of the story, when the Dr. came in to visit with me and examine the girls, I brought Luli along just for fun, she had some things to say. She told me she just had to commend me on how well I take care of my dogs. Their attitudes, coats, nails, teeth, and above all their weight! She said too often she sees over weight dachshunds come through on their way to a back surgery and she was 'very impressed with [my] girls.' I felt so proud, I'm sure much like when a new mom take her baby in for 'well baby exams' and gets the green light from all the staff. :)

Here is a pic of Ipa, Luli and Daytona on the couch with me....

In the beginning...... --Lorina

We have had some recent changes to our family in relation to the dogs and I was wondering how to let people know that may be interested.  We decided to create a blog and link it to our site (if I can figure out how...).

We recently decided to get into helping people find homes for doxies that needed to be re-homed.  Our first endeavour was either a success or failure depending on your point of view.

We were contacted by a lovely family that had two miniature dachshunds that needed a new home.  They were moving to a "No dogs allowed" place.  The two dogs were a beautiful Isabella female and a chubby black and tan male.  The female had been purchased for breeding but had never been bred.  We were very excited at the prospect of adding her to our home and program.  She has great conformation and a nice pedigree, as well as an amazing coat which is uncommon on an Isabella.

Then there was the black and tan neutered male.  I thought that we would quickly find him a home, after all, what would I need a neutered male?  We met after driving several hundred miles each and the exchange was made.  I brought the dogs home and got in late.  They were scared and barked most of the night.

The next morning I introduced them to the family.  My 3 year old looked at Bristol (the B&T male) and exclaimed, "You found him!"  "You found Mr. Weenie!"  He was referring to the children's movie Open Season in which a large, middle aged woman looks all over the woods for her lost (ran away form her) black and tan chubby male dachshund.
My 18 year old daughter that does not really care for dogs much fell in love, and my 16 year old son said he was "the most awesome dog!"

So in my quest to find Bristol (who is now called Mr. Weenie no matter how I try to correct everyone) a great loving home, I failed.  But did I?  Yes he is staying with us and I think he is happy!  And the Issy girl is so sweet as well.  I will post on her later....
